Abundance League - Thursday September 14

Thursday, September 14 at 6pm.

We love the Abundance League because it reminds us of our power, magic,
and humanity. Our lives are meaningful, some of us would even say
revolutionary,
regardless of our access to consumer products. Because we choose to live this
way and we define ourselves in relationship to each other, not to whom we vote
for or to how much crap we can buy.

Thanks again for being part of this wealthy community.

We are very excited about the dynamic created by our new format and so we
want to continue to use it. We encourage you to come prepared to
speak about your: -passions -needs -and gifts

Every Abundance Leaguer will get a chance to talk about what moves them,
what they need, and what they have to offer to this exceptional community.

If you feel called to help out by taking notes at the next gathering,
please do let us know. We received very positive feedback about our
note sharing experiment last month and would like to continue it, but
we could use your help.

See you Thursday! Abundantly yours, Neal White Arrow & Maritza

When: Thursday, September 14,6pm-10pm
Where: FAS Research headquarters (Doris and Harald's place)
   1168 Folsom Street - Unit # 304
   415.861.6445

If possible, please bring some food or drink so that the potluck is
representative of our abundant spirit.

Lisa Jervis and Andi Zeisler BITCHfest: Ten Years of Cultural Criticism from the Pages of Bitch Magazine

In the wake of Sassy and as an alternative to the more staid reporting of Ms., Bitch was launched in the mid-nineties as a Xerox-and-staple zine covering the landscape of popular culture from a feminist perspective. BITCHfest offers an assortment of the most provocative essays, reporting, rants, and raves from the magazine's first ten years, along with new pieces written especially for the collection. Smart, nuanced, cranky, outrageous, and clear-eyed, the anthology covers the recent history of feminist pop-culture critique with an arrow toward feminism's future.

Sept 16 Artist & Musician 7th Annual Expo
 http://www.artsandmedia.net/expo
September 16, 2006

The Seventh Annual Expo for the Artist & Musician
11 am-6 pm at SomArts Cultural Center
934 Brannan St @ 8th St. SF, CA http://somarts.org

WHAT IS THE EXPO?
The Expo is an all-day extravanganza featuring more than 100 Bay Area arts organizations, free workshops, pefomances, and hundreds of local artists and musicians. Attendees can browse tables staffed by local galleries, nonprofits, collectives and small businesses; present their portfolios; and join in workshops on grant proposals, censorship, arts marketing, underground art history, making a demo tape and more.

WHAT IS THE EXPO? back to the top
The Expo is the Bay Area's only grassroots connection fair for independent arts, music & culture -- an all-day extravaganza featuring more than 120 Bay Area arts organizations, free workshops, children's activities, our new Community Arts Showcase featuring local music and performance, and hundreds of local artists and musicians.
Attendees can meet a dazzling variety of local galleries, nonprofits, collectives and small businesses; present portfolios and music demos; and participate in workshops, seminars and skillshares on arts skills and methods, business and promotions, legal issues, community-building and more!
In 2005, after five years at Cellspace in the Mission, the Expo moved to the SomArts Cultural Center in the South of Market district.
It was the biggest, most colorful and most exciting Expo to date, with 124 arts groups exhibiting (a record number that included new groups from outside the Bay Area, from Sacramento to San Diego), approx. 1,000 individual attendees, and a new performance program -- the Community Arts Showcase -- that featured everything from Appalchian string-band dance music to North Indian Kathak dancing, even a Tuvan-style throat singer!
As we grow, the Expo remains firmly in the grassroots, and is dedicated to strengthening creative and cultural activity, participation and cross-pollination at the community level.

Mumia Abu-Jamal is an award-winning Pennsylvania journalist who exposed police violence against minority communities. On death row since 1982, he was wrongfully sentenced for the shooting of a police officer. New evidence, including the recantation of a key eyewitness, new ballistic and forensic evidence and a confession from Arnold Beverly (one of the two killers of Officer Faulkner) points to his innocence! 3:00 - 4:30 PM

'Balance and Power up your Chakras' with Kia Miller

Chakras are vortices of energy, that affect our perceptions, feelings and choices. Using a special blend of breath, movement, stretching, meditation and chanting, we will clear through blocks and balance mind, body, spirit!

5:00 - 6:30 PM

'Dynamic balance - Anusara Yoga Class' with Hanneli Francis

Anusara Yoga is a practice of hatha yoga that uses Universal Principles of Alignment as well as a focus on opening the heart to experience optimal physical and spiritual health.

7:00 - 8:30 PM

'Pawanmuktasana 1, The flow of the Vital Force' with Antonio Sauys

Amongst the many manifestations that energy can have within the human being, the creative energy is in the base of our ability to produce art, express, relate, and most importantly, come up with coping strategies to adapt to life challenges. Any blockage at this level, will diminish our possibilities of experiencing a fulfilling life turning the many gifts we receive into 'problems to be solved.' This practice offers a set of physical and breathing techniques along with visualizations intended to unblock the flow of creative energy within your system independent of whether the blockage is physical, mental or energetic.

Saturday, September 16th 2006

8:30 - 10:00 AM

'Pawanmuktasana 2, Connecting with your Will Power' with Antonio Sauys

This series promotes deep cleansing in the Hara and the muscles around it with the purpose of allowing the flow of vital force in this important center. It is here where our Will Power lies, the true motor of our actions and our ability to manifest what we envision in our minds.

10:30 - 12:00 AM

'Opening to Love' with Kia Miller

Open Heart, Soul and Body in a delightful yoga set that prepares us to connect heart to heart, soul to soul with the world wide Earthdance family.

Open to the public (No one under 21 allowed)

Two artists present explanations for 9/11 at variance with the official 9/11 Commission Report, one sober and factual, the other seriously funny. Also, artists present a proposal for a memorial in Shanksville, PA to Flight #93

PROGRAM

Trudy Myrrh Reagan briefly reminisces about YLEM’s 20th anniversary celebration in 2001 held just days after 9/11, and displays the actual comments that people in attendance wrote on the wall about it in their state of shock.

Trudy Myrrh Reagan is YLEM’s founder.

Chuck Thurston, “Perception, Suggestion and Reality in the Destruction of the World Trade Center Towers - a look at how fear and mass media are combined to create false beliefs in large populations.”

After a brief but riveting overview of overwhelming evidence supporting the controversial explosive-demolition hypothesis of the destruction of the World Trade Center, Thurston will show how it is part of a long and continuing history of “false flag” provocations, ones which have propelled us into many wars.

Thurston is an independent artist and expert on high-end digital printing.

Frank Garvey, “The Real 9/11 Conspiracy - Solved!”

Surrealist Frank Garvey presents yet another 'conspiracy' theory on these events. Garvey believes that they flowed inexorably from the structural decisions of the ruling classes in the U.S., Saudi Arabia and elsewhere. In response to the revolutionary rise of Arab nationalism in the 1960's, these power structures have much in common behind the veils of their respective religions. They decided to siphon off the social discontent of poor masses in the Middle East into supposedly more impotent channels, with the help of very reactionary elements in Islam. Garvey’s theory spins off a whole series of outrageous branches and tentacles which will astound and outrage the most tolerant of attendees, no matter what their ideology, income level or hairstyle.

Frank Garvey has been delighting people with mordant humor and robotic mischief in his OmniCircus Junkyard Cabaret since 1988.

Paula Levine and Susan Schwartzenberg, “Currents: a proposal for a memorial to Flight #93.”

In the fall of 2005, artists Susan Schwartzenberg, Peter Richards and Paula Levine, in collaboration with landscape architect, Tom Leader, designed and submitted a proposal commemorating the crash of United Airlines, Flight #93. The plane originally departed from Newark, New Jersey, and was bound for Los Angeles California when it crashed in an open, nonresidential old mining field just outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The proposal was in response to an international call for submissions to design a commemorative to be located on the site of the plane crash. Currents was designed to counter the tendency of monuments to delimit and flatten history. It aimed to create an active commemorative that would grow and change over time using a design that incorporated a large reclamation project, education and research on site, and a large Global Positioning Satellite network of site embedded narratives that wove throughout the large memorial site.

Schwartzenberg and Levine will talk about this collaboration within a larger context of memorials and history, and explore culture’s current compulsion to memorialize prior to the necessary shift from visceral to collective cultural memory.

Susan Schwartzenberg, a senior artist at the Exploratorium, is a photographer and visual artist. Paula Levine, professor of conceptual and information arts at SFSU, specializes in locative media like uses of GPS and maps.

# How Architects Can Reverse Global Warming (2 HSWs)
Sep 28 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm AIA San Francisco 130 Sutter Street, Suite 600
Ed Mazria, AIA, believes architects must become leaders in the fight against global warming. His recently launched 'Architecture 2030' www.architecture2030.org <http://www.aiasf.org/%20http:/www.architecture2030.org> draws a connection between building design and global warming, with research indicating that building design and construction could have a greater effect on reversing global warming than any other industry sector. Considering this research, the AIA Board of Directors released a policy statement calling for a 50% reduction in use of fossil fuels for buildings in four years, with additional reductions leading to eventual carbon-neutrality by 2030. Mazria will present his vision for how to meet these goals.

# OCTOBER 5: There is a way! There is a day!
http://worldcantwait.net/

Well as some of you might know (maybe all) there is a plan for a "nationwide" protest against
the fascists in power. This is being organized bz WorldCantWait I think Cascadians should
get involved.... this group involves people like Gore Vidal... their idea is to stimulate the
begining of a Colour Revolution like in the Ukraine with its Orange Revolution. I think this is
a means to get the idea of an Evergreen Revolution in the collective thoughts of
Cascadians ... so after the coming November election fraud and mostlikely WorldCantWaits
failure for a full "nationwide" revolution then Cascadians might keep these tools and ideas in
mind for our Evergreen Revolution (using the ideas from the book "From Dictatorship to
Democracy" www.hermanos.org/nonviolence/dictodem.html)

Doing something! Kelpie Wilson | The Good News Is Local
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/091306A.shtml
Kelpie Wilson interviews Jason Bradford, who has initiated a community
organizing effort in Willits, California, called Willits Economic
LocaLization (WELL). "The greatest challenge we, as a species, face right
now is to create a way of life based on the energy flow of sunlight, not
fossil or nuclear energy, to do so without destroying our soils, and to
enroll others in this transition. We are under no illusion that Willits can
tackle this alone, but hope that Willits can be an inspiration to others. If
we can do it here, it is possible elsewhere."

Disneyland's Guantanamo Bay Railroad Ride
Families visiting Disneyland on their holiday this week saw a life-size Guantanamo bay inmate standing inside the Rocky Mountain Railroad ride at Disneyland in Anaheim California.
The sculpture, consisting of an inflatable doll that was hooded and dressed in an orange jumpsuit, with its hands and feet manacled, remained in place for one and a half hours before Disneyland's security staff shut down the ride and removed it.
